Breastfeeding Little Bean on the Beach

I’m on vacation! YAY!

Out of all the places I have breastfed in public (there haven’t been too too many) the beach may feel the most natural. There’s so much skin on display I highly doubt anyone is interested in my little old (flabby) boob.

Although, I did get some looks. Most were more in the “is she doing what I think she’s doing?” realm. There was one Father walking with his two boys, I’d say about 7 and 10, and he pretty much diverted their attention when walking by. It was pretty funny.

Other than that though, no major scenes. It’s been nice. Click here to see some vacation pics.

Have you ever breastfed on the beach? Did anyone even notice?

Good for you! I’m so sick of all the unsympathetic people lashing out at nursing mamas lately. As a first time mother it makes me feel judged. People even go so far as to make me feel like I am doing something offensive and wrong! Us nursing mamas need to give one another the support society won’t give. Once again, good for you! Have fun!

Totally breastfed at the beach, and no cover either! Like you said, there’s enough skin on display as it is, and if someone is that excited about what’s going on at my towel, then let them see what they’re going to see. I did have a big umbrella so that seemed to make my beach area more private.

Please Roni tell us more about how Little Bean is doing on the beach. How long do you stay out in the sun, the temperatures there, what are you doing to make him comfortable (except breastfeeding that is) etc…

I recently discovered triangle top bikinis make the best nursing bras! Hello summer! You can wear them with outfits that don’t allow bras, it’s totally acceptable if it shows, they slide to the side to pop out when needed, and they come in a million colors! Oh and some of them come with pads already in! Wooooo! The beach would only go even more with the theme…

Yes, I’ve breastfed at the beach – with all three kiddos. I did cover up with a bit of a towel and no one seemed to notice (maybe now they expect to see it a bit more and get disgusted? my youngest is 17 now…)
Anyway, WTG to you, Roni! Breastfeeding is THE BEST!

I found a great way to breastfeed on the beach was to sit in the sun tent we picked up (which has been awesome by the way). I just faced towards the back of the tent, with my back to the open side.
Covering up with a towel would drive my baby nuts, and facing out towards where all the action is would distract him (at 10 months) to no end. Sun tent to the rescue!

I find I am more comfortable breastfeeding on the beach than a lot of other places in public I know that I shouldn’t feel uncomfortable, but I am still very uneasy and my son is 6 months old

Enjoy your time, I recently came back from a little lake trip and loved nursing by the pool while wearing the bikini, usually i wear a cover in public such as restaurant etc….but at the pool/lake, i did not feel like covering at all lol, and it was the best feeling ever. Noone acctually looked at me in a weird way or anything. so that’s good. I wish it was summer all year lol.

I never breastfed on the beach but I did in public where ever I happened to be. Mostly I would find a restroom but if there was not one available I would just pop my babes on. My sister is now nursing and she laughs because she used to think it was funny how I would nurse where ever and now she does too! I told her my boobs were purely functional when I was nursing. She gets it now! lol. If someone has a problem then they need to look away or just get over it. I live on the Jersey Shore and I am glad you are enjoying your vacation!

I don’t have kids but the first time I saw a lady breastfeed her baby was when I was working at KayBee toys. I walked into the doll room and there she was on the floor, boob out for all to see. I was 18 and a little taken aback at first but its her right. The baby has got to eat. I kept my teenage make coworkers out of that room just to give her privacy. Of course they wanted to go see.

oh teenage boys! LOL

It never ceases to amaze me when I hear just this sort of reaction. Feed a baby the way nature and the A.A.P. recommends and some people (in the US anyway)feel it’s inappropriate and divert their kids eyes.
Go on any beach (or any Victoria’s secret advertisement) and breast exposure is accepted.
The things that make ya say hmmmm.
Kudos to you for giving your child what is best
As my grand daughter will tell you~ a boob is an idiot, we have breasts on our chest.
