tate and mom 0619 206x300 BabymoonNow that Tate is almost a month old (which I can’t believe!) I am starting to get my groove back. I am usually showered and dressed by noon, I go run errands, I blog, and I make dinner (ok, I’ve made dinner twice – including tonight). But for some reason, I am still having a hard time working through my to-do list. I can easily go six days before returning a phone call, am lucky to return an email, and still haven’t finished writing thank you notes for my baby shower gifts. Tasks like doing laundry or calling the hospital to set up a payment plan for our [insanely] expensive hospital bill get bypassed constantly.

At the end of the day, I would rather just cuddle with Tate than do just about anything, especially the tedious or less than pleasant things. In all honesty, it takes me back to the honeymoon era of my marriage. I remember havingĀ  little motivation to do the little chores and responsibilities of adulthood; all I wanted to do was hang out with my husband and forget the world. Optimistically, I’m hoping that like the honeymoon era, this “Babymoon” era will end soon or I’m afraid nothing is going to get done (and that includes the shopping and bill paying!)

I am truly enjoying this time with my new sweet baby, but there are other areas of my life I would like to focus on, like being a good wife, continuing my hobbies, and staying in touch with my friends. And I am afraid this past month I have neglected all of these important aspects of my life.

I love being a Mom, and I love my baby boy more than anything else, but I feel the need to start learn to focus on other things in my life that make me…me.

You’re doing better than me! I’m putting off thank you notes as well… I keep moving it to the next day’s task list (which is stupid- I only have 5 or so to go and it would be relatively quick). The only thing I manage to do reliably is a load of baby laundry.

With my 5 week old, I’m just now learning to incorporate myself back into my life. It took a while but it feels so great to be me with a child not simply ‘mom’. Thanks for sharing, bc I was wondering how others were doing.

sounds like you’re doing great! I remember that frustration so well, not being able to do even the simplest tasks from my to do list. Then i would “recalibrate” and remember that if we were both fed, clean with enough sleep, then I was doing okay. the first few weeks are so precious and go by so quickly – just enjoy them. You will find more time in the future. Let the to do list wait a little :-)

I agree with Helen. Don’t wish away the time when you two are just so happy together. It’s about the only time the world let’s you slide on all your other tasks.

:-) My to-do list was re-written so many times. My baby arrived earlier than planned so I had lots of things that I had wanted to do before he was born…which made my list longer. Finally, I had just added a new task on the list which seemed to help …:For Daddy:Help Mommy w/Her To-Do List.
It worked. Thank you notes were written, doctor appts were made, bills were orgnaized/paid, house was cleaned, etc. It also did help to have my Mom watch my son..that allowed me time to do what I absolutely needed to do. Even though sometimes, I would just sit on the couch and watch her hold him! :) Chin-up…you seem to be getting the necessities done (except bills…dont forget!) Enjoy your new baby.
