Tech gadget I’d love to get is an updated iphone, and I’ll be staying away from the video game consoles. I’ve never been a video game fan. Although my friend just got an XBOX and wants me to try some exercise/dancing thing with her. Might be interesting?

We are a tv-free family, so every year a tv is on both lists…maybe it would be nice, this year, to be able to watch baseball at home! But also maybe it would be awful to have the constant temptation of television keeping me from work, reading, and actually interacting with my kids…

I’m really feeling an iPad this year… That is going in my letter to Santa!

My fiance got his mom a photo scanner thing so she can easily digitize years worth of family photos :) And my sisters and I got my mom a Kindle. And…I think that’s it for gadgetry!

I think the only technology-related thing I’m purchasing is a book for my daughter on my Kindle. She has a million real books, but this will be a little easier for us to carry outside if the house.

For years (easily the last 7-8), I have been quietly coveting the Canon EOS Rebel digital SLR cameras. As an engagement present (3+ years ago), my best friend/maid of honor bought me a new, pocket-sized point-and-shoot digital camera. So I swore I wouldn’t even think twice about the SLR digital cameras until I started having kids. Cut to summer 2011, when I gave birth to my 2nd child and three weeks later, my brother bought his wife the camera of MY dreams (and he even asked me for help picking it out). My quiet coveting turned into loud noisy rambunctious coveting for several months, and finally on Black Friday, my husband let me buy the Canon EOS T3i Digital Rebel camera. Santa came early to my house this year, in the form of a husband who didn’t complain of a large credit card bill.

First, give me that ipod speaker. How sweet is that? The most tech savy thing on my wishlist this year, is a record player. I have a box of wonderfully old records, but nothing to play them on. Sad. And I refuse to let my kids grow up without ever hearing a record.

I have to say, as a mother with a newly diagnosed child (autism) – the ipad is the queen of our mason jar fund. Touch-ANYTHING – is key for the little one right now.

I REALLY want some sort of speaker system for my ipod too – we no longer have any kind of stereo at all, and listening/ dancing to music with my kids just isn’t as fun from a laptop. That gramophone dock is sick so I’m glad it isn’t available anymore. I think for now I’ll probably go with something cheap. I’ve also thought about getting my daughter her own CD player or ipod so she can listen to music in her room. it probably won’t happen this Christmas, but maybe for her birthday in a couple of months. I’d also love to get my husband a new laptop because his is literally a piece of junk, and while we’re at it mine is probably on it’s last legs, but again, unless Santa brings me a fat wad of cash, those gifts are going to have to wait for next year.

My husband finally listened to my years of whining and we bought a Nook Tablet (ok, so it started as a whinefest about the Nook and has evolved over time) as my Christmas gift this year. Just 11 more days until I can play!

I purchased a new mp3 player, because I wanted more songs for a long holiday trip. No giant tv’s and home theater systems for me. Wen I hang with my peeps, I like to talk to them. We never go to movies together, so why do it at home?

I would love a new iphone. I’m on the first first first gen one, still. Someone at a coffee shop the other day goes, “oh cool, a vintage iphone!” Not that I care about that part, but my apps are starting to not work and that sucks.

We are getting our middle school aged son a laptop(very inexpensive one) and are really have second thoughts about the “necessity” of it…time will tell if it was a good or bad decision ;) Happy Holidays!

I’d love decor to fill my new and empty home. Oh yea and a decorator to push me in the right direction as well!

I was diagnosed with stage II colon cancer the end of October. I had surgery to remove the tumor and was fully expecting chemo and radiation. When I went to my oncology appointment a couple of weeks ago, I was told that everything went so well with my surgery and pathology results, that I didn’t need chemo or radiation. That was the best Christmas present that I have ever had!

Well this year, as our family gift….we asked Santa an Xbox and the Kinect attachment, along with a dance game for the older set, and a toddler dance game.

I hope to never purchase a giant plasma crazy expensive TV gadget! We just take free/cheap hand me down TVs. I think I’d like to try out a Kindle or something like that, but probably not this year.

The only tech-y thing I bought this year is the Hot wheels video racer for my kiddos. I have a new computer on my list, but Santa doesn’t buy for the adults in our house so . . .

The gadget I've been DYING for, but could OMGNEVEREVENTHINKABOUTITLAURANO! ..a FitBit. I know, I KNOW! They aren't that expensive, really, but it seems like such a totally luxury item.. this tiny thing that tracks and contrapulates your sleep habits, how often you walk in a day, how much the stairs REALLY burns vs the elevator :) it's amazing, and I love it.

Last year my husband gave me a Wii. Now, it’s mostly just used for Netflix. I debated asking for a Kindle, but I love paper pages so much that I just couldn’t do it! This year, I’m not really wanting anything “tech-y” unless you count a new blender!!

I think I want a Kindle. I really love actual books but they just seem so awesome!

I’ve considered a LeapPad for our 4 year old, but can’t imagine it getting more use or be a better value than simply sharing my iPad. I’m not sure the fact that we could both be on pads simultaneously is actually a bonus. However, I’m thinking white-noise machine. Trying to get said 4 year old to spend the whole night in her own room might be easier if she wasn’t so often awoken by normal city noises from the street.

My husband is in the market for a new computer this year. He has lovingly cared for his 9 year old PC but is coming to the conclusion that it might be time to upgrade. He dabbles in video for fun and would *love* to be able to edit the HD footage his camera can take of our 14 month old daughter, among other things.

As far as cell phones for kids, I hear you, it’s crazy out there. I was a camp counselor maybe 9 years ago and one of my kids had a cell phone (to camp!) and I didn’t own one at the time! I did consider getting my daughter, who is facinated by my iPhone, a wooden one for teething : ).

We really want to buy an iPad but have two functional laptops so can’t justify it. Oh well. Maybe someday.

I agree! I’m not a techy person except for a computer and ipod. I don’t even carry a cell phone – just a track phone when we have a sitter! So I don’t want to buy my kid a bunch of techy things that will be ancient in 6 months and/or broken. Everyone and their dog has some kind of video game machine so I’m just gonna send him over to THEIR house to play! Techy play dates here we come!!

I admire your strength on the Wii and cell phones. This was a rough year financially, so my kids are getting much less. I’m pretty sure they won’t know or care, but I do. I am hoping that they just get into the spirit and enjoy the people around them. Having a 13-year-old and twin 5-year-olds, the varying necessities (electronics, functional items) is just crazy!

I’d loooove to get a new camera. My husband spilled a full glass of tea on my beauty and *poof*, little Canon Elph has died. Loved that thing, too. Unfortunately, I’m thinking that it’ll be a couple of years before we can afford a new one.

Our daughter accidentally threw the Wii remote into our newish (two years old) flat screen TV on Thanksgiving day. While I would like to get a new tv, my husband is still upset about the whole thing and not ready to go there yet. However, we are going to get a Kindle Fire for our daughter for Christmas and maybe a canon powershot for our son. thanks for the giveaway!

I think this is the first year I’m not purchasing a bunch of tech things (last year there were ipods and computers aplenty). I’m kind of a big tech toy person though so I can’t even come up with some kind of tech item I probably wouldn’t buy eventually.

I am an avid reader, as is my oldest son (14). He’s always buried in a book!

I said I NEVER would, but I actually bought him a Kindle. Ugh! I dug my heels in b/c I worry about the demise of the printed word (yes, I know I sound crazy)…but, my son will be thrilled with the Kindle.

My 9 yr old is begging for a phone & my 7 year old twins want pretty much anything that’s marketed with an “i” in front of it. Sorry kiddos, not going to happen!

Photoshop is on my Christmas list too along with a digital drawing tablet so I can make more art without taking up do much space!

I’d love to get a tablet computer but it’s just not in our budget this year. My kids love grandmas.

I’d love a DSLR, but otherwise I try to stay pretty tech-minimal. Though I am typing this on my six-year-old creaky desktop, so a new computer would be pretty spectacular as well.

Got an Ipad this year for work travel and have to admit I love it. Otherwise, pretty low tech around here so I don’t even know what I don’t want since I probably don’t know that it exists.

Actually we aren’t big gift for the kids type people. They are 3 and 1, and really have no clue about what christmas is about. So the gparents are getting them a few things and we are refraining because it won’t be long before the long ass lists of crappity, crap come to call! Not a bahumbug but our teeny, tiny apartment cannot hold anything else except maybe a Dell computer!

i, too, freaking love white christmas. i watch it every christmas eve but have already watched it twice this year. my sister and i used to parade around the house as little girls singing the sisters, sisters song. it’s one of my FAVORITE things in the world.

Those speakers are amazing. They are now going on my wishlist. Oh yes! We treated ourselves to new iPhones for Christmas. I’m pretty sure I’ll never talk face-to-face with my boyfriend again unless it is through Words with Friends or Face Time (I kid, kinda).

Our family is fairly low tech. I just finished setting up our new 37″ TV – which replaced an old 27″ tube TV. I can actually watch without squinting! That’s the only tech we plan on buying.

One tech thing I can’t see myself buying is a Wii. I never had gaming systems growing up and I’m not sure I will ever think I need one.

I’ll confess that the thought did cross my mind of buying the 16 mo old a toy laptop computer given that he covets ours so. But then I came back to my senses and put the toy laptop on the never-or-at-least-not-for-several-more-long-years list!

I finally broke down and bought my husband a kinect for Christmas. He was all excited about how the kids can pet tigers, throw balls for them and make them sit and I all I could think about is how they should be doing that for our two dogs asleep on the couch…

My two oldest children (10 and 7) have been begging my husband and I for an ipod touch. We told them that if they REALLY want one, it will be the ONLY gift they are getting! Ok..not ONLY, but pretty close. We broke down and bought them each one. They are going to FREAK out!! We wrapped them in huge boxes to throw them off! Can’t wait to see their faces on Christmas morning!

I would really like a new Tablet that we can use both educationally and to use a portable entertainment center for our kidlet.

I would love a new computer this year, ours is dying a slow death and it makes me a little sad. Other than that if we had the dough in the budget my husband would be getting an ipad. I am trying to steer clear of tech things for my little one, at least for a while.

I’m steering clear of kindles/other tech that is made specifically for books, because I loooove having shelves full of actual books! I also love holding a real life book in my hands! So, although it’s a neat idea, having tons of books on yet another tech device doesn’t sound as fun as having tons of books I can actually see and hold.

I hear you on the no phones thing. Mine are 12 and 10 and have been asking for a cell phone for a couple of years. “But all of our friends have one” is the current argument. Their friends are also dropped off at the mall without an adult. Sorry, guess I’ll be old school for now. At least I’m not the only one though. :)

I’d love a new ipod – mine is outdated and finicky – and some speakers for it. I’m steering clear of anything that requires batteries and can’t be recharged by plugging it in. I never seem to have the right size batteries when I need them.

Our techy gift would be getting our TV fixed…I miss TV

They might even already have one but I don’t know about it. I would like some sort of master grocery list and maybe a way to apply it to the layout of a grocery store. How many times do I have to go back to get stuff I forgot? And I do have a list but if it’s not on the list in the first place that won’t help much.

I have to say that I am really looking forward to the Kindle Fire this christmas. I am a traditionalist and love my paper books, however while on vacation this year I read about 5 books and lugging them all around in the airport while traveling was a task. I never thought that I would be into an e-reader, but maybe … just maybe I will turn over a new leaf!

I did buy my daughter a leap pad. She will be very happy about that. But I would really like to buy an XBOX 360 with the Connect option. I think that I would love the dancing games!!!!

Do you know how much this would *make* our Christmas? For almost a year now, my husband and I have been squaking back and forth about getting a new computer. This one totes fits the bill PUH-LEASE!!

I’d really love a Kinect with Dance Central 3 – I’ve been excusing my way out of exercising for too long, and I think the fun way is the best way.

The hubs wanted an appleTV for Christmas. I’d love an iPad but it is not in the cards anytime soon and I’m really okay with it.

We love our Wii…but I’m not sure we really use it often enough for it to be worth the money we spent.

I’m not sure if this counts as a “tech” item, but I would love one of the computerized sewing machines.

Ever since my husband and I became Mennonites gift-giving has been a snap. We give the kids new covers for their Bibles depicting awesome scenes from the book of Revelation (three-headed monsters! Death as a skeleton riding on a pale horse!) They’re also getting hand-cranked radios so they can listen to music while doing the morning chores.

I’m going to get an alarm clock/ speakers for my ipod in wood from the MOMA store. It warms up the whole technology thing with the wood and it’s almost as cool as though retro Restoration Hardware ones! My dream is a new computer…

Not so much because I coveted it, but because he knew my current phone likes to turn off on it’s own & he thought it important I should be able to call him for something important. I would really like to get my fiance a smartphone with gps capabilities. He calls me at least once a week asking me how to get home, and then gets mad if/when I don’t pick up. Alas, on our 2-grad-student income, not in the cards this year.

I’m hoping for a kindle, myself. Not exactly gadgetry, but I will also be purchasing a cd box set as an mp3 as a gift for my husband which I have somehow not done until now.

We just ordered cable after 17 years with 5 to 7 channels and I’m already rethinking it. Our reception is definitely improved but I can see it becoming a mind-numbing activity. So that’s enought “tech” for us!

My hubs would like to get me a Kindle because it is in his interest that I no longer have books spilling out from the all the bookshelves in our house, but I sooooooo do not want a Kindle. I need to touch my books, fondle and smell them. Hold them like I’ve never held them before.

Good on ya for not getting Archer a cell phone at 8. We only just got one for our daughter because she has to take the train to her high school (about 30 miles away), and she’s there all day long. She was the last of her friends to get a phone, but she’s totally cool with that. We also don’t have TV, so she’s used to being the odd one out!

My never in a million years tech piece would be a baby tablet. I personally think its kind of crazy, especially when I know people who buy Ipads or other tablets FOR the baby/toddler. Not an Ipad they let the baby play with occasionally, but the babies OWN Ipad. It horrifies me. Sorry. But awesome giveaway! LOL

I was not a video game kid, and I’m not a video game mom. I just don’t get ‘em…but I do love learning games on the computer. The kids think they’re playing, but I know they’re learning. Finally a win, win!

I’m still on my first iPod, and my laptop is still hanging in there… but I desperately need a new digital camera. My boyfriend has sweetly let his camera live in my purse sometimes, but it isn’t the same! It’s also an outdoor camera, so it leaves something to be desired when taking indoor photos.

I am a sucker for technology but I really resist letting my babies get into it (they’re 11 months). I may relent on a 6.5 hour flight next week though…

My wish list would include:
Those frickin awesome speakers from Anthro, a little point and shoot…need a happy medium between SLR & iPhone (1st world problem), an ipod dock for my daughters room, & a new computer.

I would also really love a new phone with a better camera — mine doesn’t have flash so I’m screwed if it’s nighttime, or if the daytime light just isn’t strong enough.

I am very interested in the Kindle. I love reading, and love the e-ink display on the non-Fire Kindles, so would love to get one. (Totally with you on the not having cell phones for kids. Having one at 8 is insane!)

I’m seeing a lot of parents buying VERY young kids (3-5 years old) tablet PCs this year. I’m steering WELL CLEAR of giving anything that costs more than my first car to a preschooler.

We bought each of our 4 kids an android tablet for Christmas. However, we opted for inexpensive off-brands because, seriously, they are kids, and sooner or later (probably sooner) will destroy them.

Does my $100 itunes card count? We needed some new tunes and apps for our 1 and a half year old daughter! Who by the way already has an iphone, but don’t worry, it’s my old one. She uses it for an ipod, angry birds and putting in her mouth *an expensive teether!! :)

I’d like to get the Music game for the Wii — yes, that game console none of us have used in over three months *ahem* — because we played it (is it called Wii Music?) with our friends’ kids (awesome kids, btw) and it challenged even my trained ears. It would be great for my kids and I imagine us all challenging each other to hear and play and conduct. As for my own wish, a portable digital camera is #1 but unlikely because I ‘have’ a good camera and saved a pretty penny for it, too. But it clunks against my chest and doesn’t tuck away easily and I’m afraid to hurt it, etc. etc. I just want a point-and-shoot. Family wish is a new computer because, somehow, a 6-year-old Dell just isn’t really cutting it anymore and I have too many pictures and not enough memory to do video editing. None at all. Gotta preserve these family memories and these cute little faces!

On my wish list are an iPod Touch, an iPad and a new van. Oh, and someone to come run a Cat5 cable through the wall, across the attic and through another wall so that I can stream movies on the livingroom television. On my not-so-wish list is video games, since my husband loses himself in them for days and/or the kids obsess about them for 0.0004 seconds before discarding them.

I agree on the cell phone issue for kids. I have friends that bought them for their kids when they hit kindergarten but I never really understood that one. A definite no for this household. Wow I think that makes me sound so old!

I want a Kindle touch. I have an older Kindle that I love and use every day, but I have problems with my hands (chronic repetitive stress injuries in both arms) and while having a Kindle makes it easier for me to read as much as I like, having a touchscreen device would be even better.

I am currently coveting this ipod dock from Urban Outfitters that looks like an old radio/alarm clock, but since I already have a “Squeezebox”, cue Aerosmith references, I guess I don’t really need it. Maybe I will find a rad case for my Android in my stocking, something a little less boring and utilitarian?

My father-in-law has a 3D TV, so the kids can use his. I hope to keep our house 3D-free for as long as possible (hubby will inevitably have TV envy…)

I still have the same alarm clock from when I was in high school. Its pretty much broken. A new alarm clock would be nice, one that I can plug my ipod into maybe.

We purchased the Kinect sensor for our rarely-used Xbox this year. And I will be steering clear (though only becuse of price) of the iPad, while drooling/lusting over it from afar.

We play board games more than our Wii, too, but it is pretty fun to have when you first get it – we did a lot of fun family bowling time then.

Got an iPad and love it. Don’t own a laptop, just a four year old desktop,so this is strange and wonderful.
