This year I’ve been pretty tolerant of all the crazy changes that have come our way. I’ve done my best to be supportive even when tired, pregnant, hormonal, sick, and totally rung out. So please bring me a cool million dollars. See, with a million dollars, I can set my family up for life, and have enough left over to even help some others. Dear Santa,

The aformentioned form letter just didn’t work for me. However, there is an entire man catalogue (I like to call it the man-alogue) out there that would provide practical gifts for those of us who like to pretend we are hearty outdoorsmen, ready to cut down trees and start fires with a toothpick and a roll of duct tape. If you could deliver anything from this wonderful man-alogue, I would be grateful. Oh..what is this man-alogue you ask? Well, I’m glad you spoke up. It’s the Duluth Trading Company catalogue. In it are such gems as the Ballroom blue jeans (crouch without the ouch!) or Crack Spackle (extra long t-shirts the prevent us from embarrassing plumbing incidents) or even outdoor wear, like the Force Nine series of waterproof fleece coats. I’m actually not lacking for a thing, so have nothing to ask Santa for. But it’d still be fun to win a computer that could run rings around the one I’ve got now!

I let my “Santas” pick out what they want to get me. Our family hates getting lists for Christmas buying, and yet we are picky about the type of things that we really want to the point of having to buy them ourselves. So we tend to give each other fun, creative, “what we wanna buy for you” type of gifts and give each other precisely what we need or buy as it occurs during the year.

I am happy to say that the giving is not just one sided with my now young adult boys (well, all but one who still does not qualify as an adult). I am severely challanged technologically, so they things for me in that area. This has worked out very well.

My kids and other close family member are always eager for the stocking gifts which I shopr for all year. I wanted to eliminate that aspect since I am getting old and Grinch like , but was vetoed roundly.

But if I should win a new computer, it would be wonderful as I am using an antique with an open box (to prevent overheating) at the moment.

My fiancee came home from her office as a high school counselor here in New Jersey two nights ago and told me she had a student who was struggling very hard. He is being raised by his grandparents who have little or no money. The school expects the boy to access his teachers’ webpages to keep up with his class assignments. When my fiancee told him to follow those instructions, he was embarrassed to confess there is no computer in his home and no funds to buy one. We’re arranging for him to have a part-time job to pay for internet access.
