Mr. Lady describes herself as mediocre, but we think she’s anything but. A repeat member of the Babble Top 50, the woman behind the popular blog Whiskey in My Sippy Cup is not shy about sharing her most personal and terrifying fears with the world. We admire her for her strength and bravery — especially when it comes to her tumultuous relationship with her mother and her own struggles with mental illness. In fact, the blog is so confessional that we almost feel like we’re reading straight from Mr. Lady’s diary.

In a world where mothers are expected to be perfect, Whiskey in My Sippy Cup is a breath of fresh air. No matter what we’re (or she’s) going through, Mr. Lady reminds us that we are not alone — and neither is she.

Mr Lady's Quotes on Wisdom from Mom Bloggers

Unfair question. That would be like asking which cloud is your favorite to look at or which raindrop tastes the best against your tongue. I find blogs to be delightfully, deliciously, seductively addictive substances. Blogging puts up a curtain that lets people strip down and bare everything for you. I love truly, deeply, madly personal blogs, whether they be about parenting or the Tea Party or poorly made crafts. I crave real, honest, bare-boned words, and blogs are my fix.
From Which blogger is your favorite read and why?
There are really only two words you couldn't use to describe my marriage: fairy and tale. We fell in love with the 20 and 23-year-old versions of ourselves, not realizing that those are the least permanent versions of a person. Everything about us has changed, and we were forced to learn our new selves while learning the new people we'd created. And it almost didn't work. But at the core of everything we are, we had a love for each other that we didn't even know was there until we let ourselves throw it away.

In my entire life, he's been the only person to truly love me unconditionally. He meant it when he said, "For better or worse," and we've certainly had both. He understands the person that I am underneath everything I pile up on top of myself to protect myself from forming actual human connections. He will not take no for an answer, he patiently waits me out as I have to fight, and then have to flee, and he always sees me home again.
From: A shout-out for your other half: Why are your lucky to have him?
Because of her, I know exactly how not to raise my children. That may be the greatest gift I've ever been given.
From: Why do you love your mom?
Axe Body Spray. No, I am not kidding. There is nothing in the world worse than the smell of pubescent boy, and only one thing able to overpower than that, um, err, aroma: Axe Body Spray. I don't care how bad it smells. It smells significantly better than teen spirit. Praise be to the Lord.
From: What is the one parenting product you couldn't live without?
My oldest, age 12½: I don’t know. Other than the fact that I gave birth to him and take care of him, he has no idea. Which means I completely fail as a mother.

My 10-year-old: Because I take care of them, and I’m his mom, and he’ll always love me. He really, really wants an Xbox for his birthday.

From: Why do you love mom? The bloggers' kids respond!
Do not do this for money. Any time you mix money and passion, something about both changes. Allow yourself time to evolve as a writer, and yes, you will evolve as a writer, even if you're superb now. Writing is a gift that keeps giving...you get better every time you do it. Just write, just let your passion bloom. Money can come later, if you want it to, but you need those first few years to grow.

More about Mr Lady

Mr. Lady is seldom a mister, and never a lady. She gave up a life of making martinis and babies - both mostly in bars - after becoming somebody's mother three times over, and someone's wife - just once, so far.

She is the Conference Programming Manager at a BlogHer.com., and the webmaster at Story Bleed and Violence Unsilenced.

In her spare minute, she authors the formerly Canadian memoir blog, Whiskey in My Sippy Cup, a heartbreaking work of staggering mediocrity.
