NYC Winter Youth Sports

BattleCreekCVB 214x300 NYC Winter Youth SportsIt’s that time of year in the city when kids are stuck inside after school playing video games, staring at a computer or (hopefully, at least!) reading a book. But we all know well the need for regular physical activity during youth. It will help to create life-long healthy habits, reduce stress, and keep their moods stable and happy during this season of little sun. It’s never too late to get your kids involved in sports.

Here are some NYC youth sports and active options for winter and beyond.

Kids in Sports has many locations all over the city, and a variety of classes to choose from for infants through 4th graders.  They have multi-sport classes, and they also have your traditional baseball, hockey and soccer leagues. And unlike any other sports class I’ve seen, they have classes that include sports, crafts, storytime and socialization. Their winter/spring season recently began, so hurry to include your kids.

Brooklyn Boulders rock climbing gym is a great winter option for kids because it’s an indoor activity during winter, and come spring and summer, your family can plan trips for outdoor rock climbing. I’ve even heard of challenging and popular rock climbing boulders in Central Park. Brooklyn Boulders offers kids and teen leagues, ages 5-16. This adventurous sport increases flexibility and strength. Since it’s an individual sport, kids can gain confidence setting personal goals and improving skills.

Karma Kids Yoga is all over the city. Check out their classes for the whole family. Yoga is said to improve concentration and imagination, not to mention all around health and stress. Karma Kids Yoga has classes for the pregnant mom, the toddler, and kids and adults of all ages. Check out their unique Circus Yoga class and Storytime class.
