La La Ling has always managed to do to a lot with its compact space since 2004. And now the chic and whimsical kids’ boutique on Vermont in Los Feliz has added another use: the La La Salon. “Most people drive to Studio City or Pasadena, so there was no place for kids on the Eastside,” explains owner Ling Chan. “It seemed to be a constant need, plus I thought it would be really fun to offer things that my kids love to get at birthday parties or farmers’ market.” Opened since this past Saturday, the rear room has been transformed into an age-appropriate space for grooming and primping.

Two salon chairs (one adorned with Hello Kitty, the other with Sponge Bob) and a manicure station feel fun and glamorous. Other special treats include glitter tattoos, hair tinsel and creative nail adornments, plus a selection of kid-safe beauty products. If you want a straight-up bowl cut, however, you’re best going elsewhere. “The experience I wanted to give for parents is something they’ll enjoy as well, with a modern flair,” Chan says.

Ten-percent of haircut revenues will be donated to Step Up Women’s Network through the month of March.
