Writing Pad, the local writing program that offers “gourmet writing classes at sweet low prices,” has done just that. Director Marilyn Friedman says the new writing workshop that’s tailored for parents came about organically based on the changing needs and demands of Writing Pad participants. “I have a lot of moms who want to take a writing class, but they can’t because they can’t find childcare,” Friedman explains. “I wanted to make it possible for moms to squeeze some creative time into their lives too!”

Taught by writing instructor Aaron Henne, the four sessions take place in Downtown L.A. on successive Wednesdays in March, plus one elective class, and the $235 fee includes snacks and tea. The evening series costs $275. Professional on-site childcare is available for $20 per child per hour for the first kid, and $15 for each additional child. On behalf of parents everywhere, we thank Marilyn and Writing Pad for accommodating us. And even though the class is technically called “Writing for Moms,” it’s not actually limited to women — so dads need not be discouraged from signing up.

Have you always wanted to write but haven’t had the time or energy because a little one is always wrapped around your leg? Take some time for yourself to indulge your creativity in our safe, pampering environment! This class will help you unlock the great stories trapped inside of your head and show you how to squeeze a regular writing practice into your busy schedule. You’ll enjoy the company of other adults and transform your tales about the highs and lows of being a parent into insightful, compelling essays, scenes, or poems. Or we’ll help you write a story that you’d never want your children to see—what happens at Writing Pad stays at Writing Pad! We’ll even provide childcare to make it easy to attend class.
