My three-year-olds go ballistic if I try to leave them, so taking them to the Kids Club at my gym is out of the question. I was recently wondering if there was a fitness class where I could bring them with me and perhaps they could dance around while I sweat off some pounds. At some of the Chicago Public Schools they have Mommy and Me after-school yoga (for a fee) and I thought that would be a cool way to learn something healthy together when they are older given I love spinning classes but have never gotten into yoga.
And then I came across this: so-called Baby Yoga. There’s a video going around and if you haven’t seen it, prepare to be horrified. This has been verified as REAL, and to me it looks like child abuse. The baby here is TWO WEEKS OLD. This is from Russia — I’m assuming this won’t catch on here in Chicago??
You can read about “dynamic gymnastics” here. Apparently the child is a happy, healthy toddler now but my goodness! I would think this would dislocate a limb or two! Coming soon I’ll share with you a list of fitness classes in Chicago where kids are invited. Hopefully ones that don’t involve swinging newborns around by their feet. In the meantime if you’re interested in a calmer yoga with baby, try Sweet Pea Studio, the YMCA, or Bloom Yoga,
